When Should You Tie Rakhi for Raksha Bandhan?
What Time Should You Tie Rakhi?
Raksha Bandhan, or the Rakhi festival, is a special celebration in Indian traditions. It is observed on the day of Shravan Purnima, where brothers tie Rakhi on their sisters' wrists and pray for their safety and happiness. It is very important to celebrate this festival at the correct time according to the scriptures. Therefore, it is essential to know the right time to tie Rakhi so that we can celebrate this festival at the appropriate time. For 2024, the details of the Aparahna and Pradosh timings for this festival are provided here.
Raksha Bandhan - The Rakhi should be tied during Aparahna or Pradosh time on Shravan Purnima, when there is no Bhadra Karan, after six Ghadiyas (2 hours 24 minutes) from sunrise. This should be done even on the day of an eclipse or Sankranti.
According to this scripture, on Shravan Purnima day, Rakhi (Raksha Bandhan) should be tied during the Aparahna or Pradosh timings. The appropriate time should be selected after six Ghadiyas (2 hours 24 minutes) from sunrise, avoiding the Bhadra Karan. Even if there is an eclipse or Sankranti on that day, there is no obstacle to performing Raksha Bandhan.
This year (2024), on Monday, August 19th, Shravan Purnima will have Bhadra Karan until 01:33 PM. Therefore, according to the above rule, Raksha Bandhan can be performed during the Aparahna time between 01:35 PM and 04:06 PM or during the Pradosh time between 05:48 PM and 07:24 PM.
